People often come to therapy after trying a lot of things that were supposed to help but didn’t quite land. Advice from books, friends, social media, or even other professionals can make it seem like there’s a correct way to cope, heal, or exist. When those strategies don’t work, it’s easy to assume the problem is you.
Usually though, it isn’t.
Many of the challenges people face (like anxiety, burnout, feelings of constantly being on edge or disconnected) are complex, developed over time, and make more sense when we look at the context around them. Our habits, beliefs, and nervous systems adapt to the environments we’ve lived in, and sometimes can start to feel like something we’re stuck inside of.
As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist, I've spent years working with people navigating exactly these kinds of experiences, and I’ve found that change rarely happens through force or self-criticism. Instead of rushing to fix or force change, we will slow things down and start noticing what's actually happening: what pulls things tighter, what loosens them, and what might allow a little more space to move.
Life has a way of becoming tangled in ways that aren’t always obvious while we’re in the middle of it, but I believe that with some curiosity, creativity, and maybe even a little bit of laughter, even the most complicated knots can begin to loosen. Most people find that as things begin to loosen, there's a little more room to breathe and sometimes, to surprise yourself. If that sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to hear from you.
